Each fall the Germanic-American Institute organizes an authentic Oktoberfest at the historic Schmidt’s Brewery with imported beer from Munich and food from local German restaurants. This year there was plenty of beer, brats, German music, wiener dog races, vendors of German wares and an inflatable play area for children. It’s a fun, family-friendly affair.
For the first time, the Twin Cities VW Club was invited to participate on Friday and Saturday, September 13 & 14. Although the weather was brisk and breezy on Friday evening, it didn’t prevent a crowd from gathering. Our VWs were a big hit for young and old! Folks took pictures and gathered around to talk to the car owners about their cars and share their own VW stories. One attendee asked us, “How often do you drive your car? If it were mine, I’d drive it all the time!” Others from our club came on Saturday and found the same warm German reception. Everyone from our club who brought their Volkswagen got a pass for food and drink.
The St Paul Oktoberfest was a perfect venue for displaying our Volkswagens. We encourage everyone in the club to show up in 2020. Make a note on your calendars for next September!
